Nancy Fleming

Past President, Member at Large

Nancy became involved with the Institute as a creek monitor when moving to Nevada City in spring of 2010. Having lived on Deer Creek for 11 years, she greatly values the work that SSI does to keep the creek and environs healthy. She is also very supportive of the Institute’s geographic expansion into other corridors and watersheds, including the Bear River, Wolf Creek, and Auburn Ravine.

Nancy’s professional career was in the practice of landscape architecture, with an emphasis on urban “systems” such as waterways, transportation corridors and open spaces. She has worked throughout the U. S. and overseas creating better communities for people. A particular love of hers is work in restoring urban rivers and re-connecting them back into cities. One such project was a 2000 Master Plan prepared for 13 miles of the San Antonio River, both up-stream and down-stream of the famed River Walk, which won a national Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects.  The planned improvements were completed in 2014.

She and her husband have relocated back to Sausalito, but she remains on the Board.  “The work of SSI greatly impacts all downstream waterways, including the San Francisco Bay on which I now live.  SSI’s work is important to me and I want to continue my service to it.”
