Lang Waters

Member at large/Past president

Lang Waters earned a BA in Philosophy from UC San Diego and has worked in the tech industry since 1995.  In 2005 he was offered the opportunity to work from home and promptly moved from the Bay Area to Nevada City to raise a family closer to nature.  Over the past 20 years he has worn many hats at a single company–technology recruiter, database administrator and script writer, tech support manager, project manager and for the last six years a senior systems analyst.  As his children entered high school he sat on the board of directors at a local charter school, and as they leave high school he has looked for other ways to be active in the community, such as sitting on the Nevada County Adult and Family Services Commission and now working with Sierra Streams Institute.

The local watershed has always been important to the Waters family.  The family name was chosen, not inherited.  The annual watershed clean up has been a family tradition for more than ten years, as has the exploration of local creeks and the Yuba in the Spring.  He strongly values the quality of water in Sierra streams and the living things be found there.  He is a graduate of the 2018 California Naturalist course offered by SSI and is grateful for the opportunity to participate in and advocate for citizen science and the work done by Sierra Streams Institute.
