As fall approaches, we’ll be saying goodbye to Tavi Maes, who has spent his summer away from UC Santa Cruz working as an intern in our benthic macroinvertabrate lab.
Reflecting on his experiences at Sierra Streams, Tavi says he has enjoyed learning the basics of hydroecology and working with an incredibly passionate group of scientists at SSI.
Tavi stated that despite the challenge of spending long hours sorting through BMIs, it’s been rewarding knowing he has benefitted his community and contributed to a broader goal of improving the natural world.
Although he will no longer work for SSI during the academic year, Tavi hopes he can find similar opportunities to explore different areas of ecology and benefit communities in the Santa Cruz area.
