Lynn Barakos

Lynn Barakos is a native Californian who has been an enthusiastic explorer and appreciator of
Sierra streams and rivers throughout her life. She spent nearly three decades at UC Berkeley’s
Lawrence Hall of Science, bringing science education materials and leadership training to Bay
Area teachers and administrators. She was a founding member of the BEETLES project,
developing in-person and online resources for leaders and field educators in outdoor science
programs. Lynn has designed and led intensive institutes for environmental science leaders
and teachers across the country and is passionate about using learner-centered and naturecentered experiences to engender a deep connection to our natural environment and a deep
understanding of how things work.
Lynn has also enjoyed using music to bring families together as a member of the Bungee
Jumpin’ Cows, a science-rock band playing at schools, science fairs and festivals, including
four years performing at Strawberry Music Festival on the Birch Lake stage. Lynn is now thrilled
to be semi-retired living in Grass Valley since 2020, and she looks forward to actively
supporting the work of Sierra Streams Institute to educate and inspire local involvement in
sustaining a healthy watershed and surrounding ecosystems.
