Melissa grew up between the southern Rockies and the foothills of Mt. Diablo, and has always had a taste for outdoor adventure. Her career has taken her from alpine lakes in the eastern Sierra Nevada as an undergraduate at UC Santa Barbara to shipping channels in the San Francisco Bay-Delta as a graduate student in UC Davis’ Graduate Group in Ecology. She also spent time in Mojave oases and Great Basin wetlands before she found her way back to the Sierra as a Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP) service member with American Rivers in Nevada City. After a year of romping through meadows from Sequoia National Park to Lassen National Forest, Melissa found her home at Sierra Streams Institute (SSI). Here, she manages the Chemistry Lab which performs nutrient, algal, bacterial, and soil analyses and coordinates SSI’s water quality monitoring efforts throughout Deer Creek and the Bear River.
