After four months as a Field Technician with us, Becca has officially entered her new role as our Citizen Science and Outreach Coordinator!
In her new role, she will be working hard to develop our Environmental Center, coordinate with volunteers and be the smiling face at outreach events.
Becca spent her young life exploring the Gulf Coast beaches of Florida, watching the waves crash against the shore, seeking the best shell on the beach and curiously marveling at the critters of the sea. She began her adult life in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina leading youth through rock, water and land adventures learning about the natural world and inspiring others to seek the joy of being alive. She overwintered in Telluride, Colorado learning how to ski and teaching little ones the magic of the land they played on. The summer before she found us, Becca worked as a Wilderness + Interpretative Ranger at Gates of the Arctic National Park in Alaska. There she gained a deeper appreciation of our connection to the land and the significant role we each play in protecting it. In her spare time you can find her backpacking, rafting, gardening, swimming in the Yuba or spending time with her community.
What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever been?
Hard to say. Utah’s southeast desert really blew me away. The colors and textures of the landscape will forever fill me with inspiration. And northern Alaska where I truly understood what the word wild meant.
What is the sound you love the most?
East coast cicadas. They just remind me of summertime.
