This is What a Scientist Look Like

Meet Hailey Wilson!

Hailey Wilson is an enthusiastic ten-year old with a deep passion for laughter and learning. I thought it was so important to highlight Hailey in this series because she’s downright inspiring. She’s full of silliness, energy and a love of the natural world that is contagious. We all adore her and we know you will too.

Hailey can be found volunteering for Sierra Streams in the lab, helping to identify bugs or out in the field, collecting bugs, pulling scotchbroom, and helping out with amphibian surveys. Maybe it’s because her grandma, Kathy, helps to run our macro lab or maybe it’s because “bugs are silly,” she says, but you can tell she especially loves collecting and ID-ing bugs. She loves that they look like little monster astronauts when under the microscope and that collecting them always means swimming in the streams. Hailey loves that she’s helping her grandma and of course, gets to be outside in the process.

She says of her biggest surprise of volunteering with us, “SO MANY TADPOLES AND FROG EGGS!!”

Hailey appreciates all of the little things that being outside means. She’s curious and engaged all while remaining silly and playful. She has community that supports her, encourages her and we know she’s meant for big things and we’re excited to watch her grow.

Join Hailey and get involved! Build community through active participation and exploration. Try new things. Notice the little things. Be curious. Encourage your community. Let the wisdom of this incredible ten-year old light the way. Get involved.
