At long last we are ready to launch the Environmental Field Sites Database created by Sierra Streams Institute with the support of an awesome partner team! Funding for this project is provided through the EPA Environmental Education program.
What is the Environmental Fields Sites Database?
This is a database of field sites that teachers can bring their students to for environmental science instruction in Nevada and Yuba Counties. It will be an open source website for anyone in the community to use.
The concept of the database is to provide information about field sites that have been tested with students by local traditional and non-traditional educators. The idea is that with this information teachers can feel confident in their understanding of what it would take to bring their students to a given field site and what specific phenomena would be present at the site to provide instruction on.
We are looking to get the database in the hands of educators and community members at large to test drive it and provide feedback by filling out this review form.
Will there be resources available to teachers?
In addition to the database we have also been working on a Watershed Communication Toolkit that assists teachers in preparing students to share their outdoor science experiences with other classes. Keep your eyes out for the launch of this educational toolkit in the new year.
Thank you to our Partners!
